SkinLovin’ Sundays #15 | Are you (unknowingly) blocking your pores?

Hey guys 👋 welcome back to another SkinLovin’ Sundays post as part of my weekly blog series! For those of you who are new to The Typical Beauty Blog or those of you who don’t follow me… yet 😜 its basically a series which I started to focus exclusively on skincare. So if thats something which you fancy then make sure to check every Sunday 🗓. In these weekly posts I’m gonna try to focus less on products & more on techniques & tips for you guys… so let’s get started 👉 Today’s topic is: “ Non-Comedogenic products

Non-Comedo-whaaaaaa?

I know the name sounds very scientific 🔭 but its so IMPORTANT to know what type of products you’re applying to your skin on a daily basis, especially if you want CLEAR skin… & lets be honest 💁 everyone wants clear skin. Well Non-Comedogenic products are products which have been PROVEN to not cause any type of clogging inside pores! Therefore they keep them clean, clear & open! The word comes from the technical term for blackheads/whiteheads which is comedones, therefore these products are called Non-Comedogenic as they don’t lead to these.

Why is it important?

Keeping your pores clean & open is so important to having an improved skin TEXTURE, as well as having a healthy looking complexion, by using these types of products you lower the chance of blackheads & whiteheads as lotions, moisturisers & makeup thats specifically formulated this way will not be increasing the skins sebum levels. Increased sebum levels occur due to an increased production of sebum from the sebaceous glands, which therefore leads to oily skin… or how I like to call my skin an OIL-SLICK 😩. If the glands produce less sebum, the skin is less oily, which means less pores are clogged… d’ya see where I’m going with this? 🤔

All about acne

Non-Comedogenic products are said to be especially amazing for people who suffer from acne 🙌, as they tend to have very high levels of sebum, therefore its extremely important they try to limit the amount of clogging that occurs in the pores. Non-Comedogenic moisturisers & lotions are amazing for that! I know its so easy to overlook how important moisturising is when you suffer from acne (cause I suffered from terrible acne for many years in my teens 😞) & moisturising is the last thing you wanna be doing, cause it doesn’t make sense to make your skin even greasier right? Well Non-Comedogenic products can also be oil-free & oil-free lotions/serums are gonna become your best friend! In my Sephora haul! I picked up an oil-free lotion & serum which are by far the BEST mattifying products I’ve EVER used.

  1. I actually struggle with really bad skin, I’ve always had it so I’m always willing to try anything so this was such a useful post for me, I definitely need to get some oil free lotions because I think this may be root of the problem so I’m definitely going to keep my eye out for more natural products to use, so this was a great post for me to read. xxx

  2. I’ve recently started to see more non-comedogenic products in my routine. I didn’t go out and look for them, but I’ve recently found a lot more natural brands, so that’s a plus! I have dry skin rather than oily, but I find my skin fares better with them, and it doesn’t breakout (like when I used a lot of drugstore SPFs) x

    1. Drugstore SPFs are the worst! I hate them, I think its the only reason why I don’t wear sun protection tbh! I have had such bad experiences with them, which sunscreen are you using now? I’m on the lookout for a sunscreen I would wanna wear every single day xx
